Varsity plans to construct 20 buildings at the cost of Rs. 150 crore PUDUCHERRY: Steps are being taken to fill vacancies for teachers in all departments of Pondicherry University by May, Vice-Chancellor J. A. K Tareen said on Friday. After inaugurating ‘Know your university programme,’ an initiative to bring more coordination among departments, he said several vacancies had been filled recently. At present the faculty strength stood at 228. A few more vacancies had to be filled, and the process would be completed by May-end. As for improving infrastructure, Mr. Tareen said the university had planned to construct 20 new buildings at the cost of Rs. 150 crore. He appealed to the faculty to put in place a mechanism to facilitate co-ordination among different departments to have a “healthy academic growth.” “Everyone should strive to make the university a centre of international excellence.” Murali Sivaramakrishnan, coordinator for Know Your University, said the programme was meant to bring about more interaction between the faculty and students. Faculty members would get a platform to brief about the history of their departments and future academic plans. On the inaugural day, representatives of different wings such as the Academic Staff College, the College Development Council and the Principal of the Community College presented papers on the programmes taken up during the past several years.
