BELLARY: V.B. Halappa, former Congress MLA and an opponent of M.P. Prakash, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Saturday. It is the fallout of Mr. Prakash’s entry into the Congress recently. “I have been opposing Mr. Prakash ideologically and politically for the past 25 years. I also defeated him in the Assembly elections in 1999. Now, he has joined the Congress. To register my protest, I have quit as both of us cannot be in the same party,” Mr. Halappa said. Mr. Halappa told The Hindu that he had put forth his views before the Congress leaders about inducting Mr. Prakash into the party.
