Leopard caught

Correspondent

Sirsi: An injured leopard was caught by the residents of Ragihosalli village and handed over to the authorities of the Department of Forests, Sirsi division.

The leopard was spotted on the fringes of the Hebre forest near here by the residents of the village, according to sources.

The male leopard, said to be three years old, was injured in the leg.

Leopards live in the evergreen forests and venture out during night, said Divisional Forest Officer Vijay Mohanraj. Such species were on the verge of extinction, he said and added that the animal would be shifted to the Lion Safari in Tyavarekoppa in Shimoga.
