Traditional sport: Youths attempting to break the buttermilk pot as part of the Holi celebrations in Gulbarga on Saturday. GULBARGA: The two-day Holi festival ended here on Saturday with people from various communities participating in the celebrations. Gulbarga city wore a festive look with people, particularly the youth, exchanging greetings and sprinkling colour at each other to usher in the spring season. Reports received here said that Holi was also celebrated with enthusiasm in other parts of the district. No untoward incident occurred in the district. In Surpur, special prayers were offered at the Gopalswamy temple to mark the occasion. Bidar Staff Correspondent writes: People celebrated Holi in Bidar with religious fervour. “Pot-breaking” event was held at many places in the city. The event at Madiwala Chowk attracted a large number of people. “Pot-breaking” events were also held in Old City. “Holi ka dahan” was held on Friday. All shops, hotels and other commercial establishments in the city remained closed till noon. A large number of people gathered at the house of the former Minister Bandeppa Kashempur in Old City and celebrated the festival of colours. A group of people went to Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta’s residents and greeted him on the occasion.
