Congress to launch campaign in Hassan district on March 26

Three Congress observers appointed for Hassan district

‘Janata Dal (S) is the main rival of the Congress in Hassan’

HASSAN: Congress leader S.M. Anand on Saturday said that there was no proposal before the Hassan District Congress Committee to invite the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, to contest from Sakleshpur, which was a reserved constituency now.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Anand said the KPCC had appointed the former Ministers N.M. Nabi, Krishnappa and Nanjundaswamy as observers for Hassan district.

They would arrive here on March 26 to seek the views of party workers and leaders on probable candidates. On the same day, the district unit of the Congress would launch its campaign in the district.

Mr. Anand said the return of the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna to State politics had rejuvenated the Congress.

The Congress leadership in the district would select the candidates for all the seven Assembly segments and recommend them to the KPCC. He expressed confidence that the Congress would win all the seven segments in Hassan district and the Kadur segment in Chikmagalur district, which was now part of the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency.

He said that 5,000 people from the district would attend the Congress rally in Bangalore on March 29.

Mr. Anand said that for the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party was the main rival in State.

In Hassan district, the Janata Dal (Secular) was its rival, he added.
