Congress workers urged to strive for party’s success

Staff Correspondent

‘The coming elections will be a fight between communalism and secularism’

BELLARY: K.P. Munivenkata Reddy, MLC and Congress observer for Bellary district, on Saturday urged the party workers to work together for the success of the party in the coming elections.

‘Forget differences’

Addressing Congress workers here, he underlined the need for the party leaders and workers to forget their differences and strive not only to ensure the victory of the party in the district, but also to strengthen the hands of the All India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi.

Claiming that the Congress alone could give a stable government in the State, Mr. Reddy said that many welfare programmes would be launched if it was voted to power.

“The responsibility is on you now to ensure the victory of the party. We are here to ascertain your views and list out the names of the winning candidates. Without any hesitation, you can suggest the names, which will be passed on to the high command,” he added.

Nissar Ahmed, another Congress observer, said that the coming elections in the State would be a fight between “communalism and secularism”.

People have realised that it was the Congress alone, which was in the forefront in propagating and following “secularism” and giving protection to minorities and the downtrodden, he said and appealed to the party workers to strive for the success of the party candidates.

Abdul Wahab, president of the district unit; Allum Veerbhadrappa, former KPCC president; and Siraj Sheikh, former MLA, spoke on the occasion.

M. Shankar Reddy and Gujjal Jayalakshmi, former MLAs, and Kamala Mariswamy, president of the District Mahila Congress, were among those present.
