JD(S) to adopt internal reservation to select candidates: Kumaraswamy

Party to hold rally in Mysore on April 2

MYSORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) will adopt an internal reservation policy to select candidates for the coming elections to the State Assembly.

The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who paid a surprise visit to the city on Friday evening, told presspersons that the party would identify candidates from all castes and sub-castes in consonance with the stand taken by the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.

Mr. Kumaraswamy chided the Congress for “ferrying” busloads of people from other districts to attend its recent Janandolana rally. The Congress party’s local leaders had held several rounds of preparatory meetings for the rally, and had brought people from various parts of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, he said.

He said the Janata Dal (S) would hold a rally in Mysore on April 2. When asked about the possibility of the party entering into a pre-poll understanding with other parties, Mr. Kumaraswamy said there was no such proposal before the party. “The Janata Dal (S) would contest the election alone,” he said.

‘Many options’

When asked which constituency he would contest from, the former Chief Minister chose to be evasive. “I have many options before me. I can contest from several constituencies,” he added. He also rejected claims that his brother and the former Minister H.D. Revanna would contest from Hunsur, in opposition to arch rival G.T. Deve Gowda. Mr. Kumaraswamy said Mr. Revanna would contest from Holenarsipur. Earlier, Mr. Kumaraswamy held a meeting with party leaders Sandesh Nagaraj, S.R. Mahesh, H.C. Basavaraju, Bharathi Shankar and A.R. Krishnamurthy.
