Farmers urge government to permit toddy tapping

Staff Reporter

ERODE: Farmers have urged the State Government to permit toddy tapping.

At a press meet here on Friday, S. Nallasamy, president, LBP farmers’ association, said that the association and others in the State would meet in Erode on April 8 to discuss the issue.

Prior to that, lakhs of farmers in the State would submit a petition through a letter campaign to permit toddy tapping. The campaign would be followed by a fast in front of the Secretariat, when they would announce a date to tap toddy. He said while the farmers’ body appreciated and welcomed complete prohibition in the State, it was against the discrimination shown to toddy, which was not only health-friendly compared to Indian Made Foreign Liquor but would also help revive village economy.
