NEW DELHI: A day after some Tibetan protesters forcibly entered the Chinese Embassy here, the police reviewed security arrangements in the Chanakyapuri area. “Two battalions are already stationed around the embassy. Though no additional force has been deployed, Panchsheel Marg has been temporarily closed to traffic and security beefed up on the road,” Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said on Saturday. Adequate security, as prescribed by the Union Home Ministry, was being provided to the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, who arrived here on Friday for a weeklong meditation workshop, Mr. Bhagat said. Protest continuesMeanwhile, continuing their protest against the “crackdown” in Lhasa, a large number of Tibetans staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in the morning. “A relay hunger strike has been on at Jantar Mantar for a week and a large number of protesters gather there every day to express their solidarity with the participants. The protesters raised slogans. This was followed by a prayer session and a procession. It was a peaceful protest,” said Dhondup Dorjee, vice-president, Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress. The protesters are demanding that China immediately stop “use of force against peaceful” protesters and release all detainees without any pre-condition, and that the United Nations send an independent fact-finding team to Tibet and present a report on the prevailing condition.
