Shanmugam passes away

Bangalore: R. Shanmugam, former football player and a staff member of the Bangalore District Football Association (BDFA), passed away on Thursday.

Shanmugam, 60, is survived by wife and a daughter.

Shanmugam played for Southern Blues as a stopper-back in the 1960s and also served in the Karnataka State Football Association briefly before joining the BDFA in 1971.

The BDFA managing committee condoled Shanmugam’s demise and also praised his contribution to the game, both as a player as well as an administrator.

Volleyball tournament

St. Joseph’s Engineering College will host the VTU Mysore Zonal inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at its campus at Vamanjoor, near Mangalore, from Monday.

Cricket tournament

The Chamaraju Memorial inter-engineering collegiate cricket tournament will be held in Bangalore from April 4. For details, contact K. Ramachandra, ph: 94492 49307.

Match postponed

The final of the Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Ace Surgical Cup scheduled to be held on Saturday, will now be played on Tuesday.

The final was deferred in view of the damage to the main pitch at Nehru Maidan due to continuous downpour in Mangalore for the past three days.

Gowda retains post

Lokesh Gowda remains the president while K. Nanda Kumar retained the general secretary’s post for yet another term, after the AGM and elections of the Karnataka Volleyball Association (KVA) after at the Patel’s Inn here on Saturday. The junior national volleyball championship has been allotted to Karnataka and will be held at Pandavpura (Mandya District) in December 08-January 09.
