Wellman Twenty20 cricket

Mumbai: As a precursor to the DLF-IPL Twenty20 championship, the city will get a taste of the excitement of the shortest form of the game when the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) Wellman Twenty20 Corporate Trophy 2008 gets underway from March 27 to 30.

The matches will be played at the Wankhede and Brabourne stadiums.

Following the initiative taken by the MCA Vice-President, Dilip Vengsarkar, the U.K.-based Wellman agreed to sponsor the tournament for Rs. 10 lakhs.

Participating teams: MRF (Chennai), Canara Bank (Bangalore), State Bank of Mysore, Air-India (North), Vijaya Bank (Karnataka), All India Customs and six local teams.

Prize money break up: Winner: Rs. 3 lakh; Runner-up: Rs.1.5 lakh; Man of the Match (F inal): Rs. 25,000; Man of the Match (for 14 preliminary and two semifinals): Rs. 5,000 each; Best batsman: Rs. 25,000; Best bowler: Rs. 25,000; Best fielder: Rs. 25,000. — Special Correspondent
