Prajnesh moves up

GURGAON: Prajnesh Gunneswaran beat Harshana Godamanne of Sri Lanka 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 to reach the second and final qualifying round of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the NTA Complex here on Saturday.

In the next round, Prajnesh will meet the fourth-seeded Sergei Krotiouk of Russia.

Vijayant Malik, Tushar Liberhan, Yannick Nelord and Rupesh Roy were the other Indians to have reached the final qualifying round.

National champion Vishnu Vardhan lost 3-6, 3-6 to Idan Rosenberg of Israel and former National champion Vinod Sridhar bowed 5-7, 2-6 to Ciaran Moore of South Africa.

The match between V. M. Ranjeet and Rahil Makharia had to be abandoned early in the second set and would continue on Sunday. — Special Correspondent
