Ex-Minister accuses SP of manhandling him

ANANTAPUR: Former Minister G. Nagi Reddy on Saturday alleged that Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra had manhandled and used filthy language against him in the name of counselling. Talking to mediapersons here, Mr. Nagi Reddy, who is now with the Congress, said the SP summoned him on Friday and manhandled him.

He said that he would lodge a private complaint in a court of law against the SP and also meet Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Home Minister Jana Reddy to complain about the treatment meted out to him. “I will not rest till the SP is transferred,” he said.

Earlier, Mr. Nagi Reddy and his political-cum-factional rival Y.T. Chandrasekhar Reddy of Dadithota village in Tadimarri mandal in the district were summoned by the SP on Friday and warned against instigating their followers as their acts were disturbing peace in the area. When contacted, Mr. Raveendra said he had summoned the two leaders as part of routine policing as the two had been vitiating the peace.

Terming the allegations of the former minister wrong he said there was no truth in it. “I cautioned the two against disturbing peace and it may have hurt him,” the SP said. He said Mr. Nagi Reddy was earlier involved in criminal cases of rioting, hurling of bombs and murder.

More recently, both Mr. Nagi Reddy and Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy along with their followers had a scuffle in the Tehsildar’s office at Tadimarri, the Superintendent of Police added.
