NEW DELHI: It was a rare occasion as Delhiites got an opportunity to witness the divine wedding of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy, the resplendent Lord of Tirumala, and his consorts here in the Capital over the weekend. A large number of devotees thronged the grounds of Sri Venkateswara College where for the first time in Delhi, the celestial “Kalyana Mahotsav” of Lord Venkateswara was organised in grand style. The idols of the Lord were brought to Delhi by a team of 20 priests from Tirupati, who performed the “Kalyana Mahotsav”. The ceremony continued for over four hours on Friday during which “Annamacharya Keertanas” were recited with the same devotional fervour as conducted in Tirupati, considered the abode of Lord Venkateswara -- also known as Balaji -- which is one of the most revered pilgrim centres in the country. The festival was conducted according to the Hindu marriage customs with “homam”, “samprokshana” and “pravara”. Booklets on the Lord were also distributed among the devotees who came in large numbers to witness the ceremony.
