Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A car that went up in flames caused a flutter on the busy Kamarajar Salai on Saturday at around 11.30 a.m.

According to the Anna Square police, the car, belonging to the Madras High Court, was being taken to a workshop for repair. Driver R. Santhakumar noticed smoke from the vehicle as he neared the Kannagi statue. As soon as he stopped the car and got out, the vehicle caught fire, taking pedestrians and commuters by surprise. A fire tender from Triplicane was called to put out the fire. The police said the fire was caused by a mechanical fault.
