Evictees to call off ‘satyagraha’

KOCHI: People from Moolamppilly who have been evicted from their residence since early February will call off the ‘satyagraha mode of struggle’ from Sunday in view of a government announcement of compensation, including provision for land, in a settlement package.

A spokesman for the evictees said that it was only that the ‘satyagraha’ mode of protest was being called off and that other forms of protest would continue.

The spokesman said the evictees had been protesting against the government move since February 7 at Menaka trying to draw public attention to their plight.

The spokesman said the government should allocate the land in a time-bound manner.
