SSC student ends life

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A tenth standard student ended her life on Saturday after her mother reprimanded her for not properly preparing for the ensuing annual exams at Madhapur, the police said.

The SSC annual exams will start from Monday. The victim Haritha, 15, is a student of Sai Public School. Her father Srinivas works with a private company at Dubai. Haritha’s examination centre was at Maqta in Khairatabad. Since the centre was too far, Haimavathi, along with her son, went out to hire an auto-rickshaw to take her daughter to the centre and back on exam days.

“While going out, Haimavathi took to task Haritha saying she was not focussing on studies,” the Madhapur ASI M. Mahipal said.

Minutes after she stepped out, Haritha doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire. Neighbours rushed to the house on seeing smoke emanating from the house. But by then, the girl got burnt to death.
