Provide immediate relief: PMK

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, on Saturday said relief assistance should reach those affected by the unseasonal rain in the last one week immediately.

In a statement here, he said the southern districts and Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts were badly hit by the rain. Crops and property were damaged. The old practice of distributing relief only after the visit of the District Collectors, Ministers and MLAs to the flood-hit areas should be changed. He suggested setting up of a Rehabilitation Authority for providing relief to victims of natural disasters immediately and for taking up works on a war-footing. The government should allocate annually contingency expenditure fund for the body. Dr. Ramadoss said the relief amounts for various categories of the affected people should also be increased.
