CHENNAI: Within days of forming the Single Window Facilitation Agency (SWFA) to enable IT companies to get building plan approved within 60 days, the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has received the first application from Wipro Technologies.

As per the proposal, Wipro is constructing a 5,00,000-sq.ft building in the ELCOT Special Economic Zone at Vilankurichi at Coimbatore and has sought SWFA’s help.

On Monday, Wipro’s application would be submitted to Director of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) for initial clearance and then it would be forwarded to the authorities of local body in Coimbatore for inspection and formal plan approval.

The SWFA was constituted by Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathy to expedite approval for IT buildings within 60 days from the date of receipt of application, failing which the Special Committee headed by him would clear the approval on the 70th day.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Tripathy said, “It is a sort of hand-holding provided by the State government to IT firms and IT builders in the State. So far, the feedback from them has been good. We are striving to have a system in place so that all the applications received by us are processed quickly. The main stakeholders have also agreed to provide their clearances within the stipulated time. We will be meeting within a month’s time to review the progress.”

Checklist

Meanwhile, the ELCOT has asked the DTCP and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority officials to submit the checklist to clear the applications. Besides, the ELCOT has set up a five-member team headed by its senior business development manager – IT promotions B. Evanesan to review the status of the applications and to coordinate with CMDA and DTCP officials on a daily basis.
