Order on DA hike issued

CHENNAI: The government on Saturday issued orders for increasing the dearness allowance from 41 per cent to 47 per cent for government officials, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners with effect from January 1, 2008. This is in keeping with the announcement made in the budget.

The arrears due to the allowance hike will be paid in cash. Following the decision, the government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs.136 crore in the current year and Rs.817 crore in the financial year starting April, according to an official press release.
