The North-East police division will be headed by a DCP It will comprise 10 police stations Bangalore: The State Government, in a bid to enhance security around the new international airport at Devanahalli and new localities in the north-eastern parts of the city, has created a new police division, besides sanctioning six new police stations and three sub-divisions. A Government Order issued in this regard on March 12 stated that the North-East police division, headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, would comprise 10 police stations, including six new and four existing police stations. LocationThe new police stations will be located at international airport at Devanahalli, Kodigehalli, Amruthahalli, Samigehalli Layout, Kothanur and Bagalur. The four existing police stations — Yelahanka and Yelahanka New Town from Bangalore city, and Devanahalli and Chikkajala from Bangalore Rural district have also been included in the new city police division as per the order. The three new sub-divisions are Sampigehalli Layout, International Airport and Yelahanka, which would be headed by officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Meanwhile, the State Government has appointed Basavaraj S. Malegatti as the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the North-East division. Posts sanctionedThe Government has also sanctioned 731 posts of various ranks for the North-East division, including the six new police stations and three sub-divisions. However, all the staff required for each new police station and sub-divisions, according to the Government Order, have to be posted by redeploying the existing manpower with the city police. The Police Department had sought new divisions and police stations for the north-eastern parts of the city which witnessed huge growth in terms of new residential and commercial buildings, layouts, IT and BPO firms, in addition to the formation of the international airport at Devanahalli.
