Church renovation from today

KOZHIKODE: The renovation of Mother of God Cathedral here will begin on Monday.

The church, built by the Portuguese, will be renovated at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore. Portugal will fund Rs.50 lakh. The remaining amount will be collected from local parishes.

The work will be completed in a year. The renovation will be undertaken in such a manner that the existing style of architecture of the church is retained. The church was built by the Portuguese around the year 1596

The Cathedral functions as the headquarters of the Latin Catholics in Malabar.
