ON A MISSION: Students at the drawing competition for creating awareness of tuberculosis. PUDUCHERRY: There are a number of ways to spread awareness of a social cause, including eradication of tuberculosis. The Puducherry administration thought it better to catch them young. Through a campaign, the government intends to spread the message that early detection of TB could cure the disease completely. To this end, the Health Department, in collaboration with Puducherry State Artists Society, conducted a drawing competition for students of various government and private schools on Sunday. A total of 216 students from 33 schools participated in the competition, held at the Sacred Heart School. The students drew on the topic “I am preventing TB. It is everyone’s responsibility.” The students also put up posters carrying the picture of actor Suriya, the brand ambassador for Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS), on autorickshaws plying in the town. The painting competition was inaugurated by Director of Health and Family Welfare Services Dr. Dilip Kumar Baliga, in the presence of State TB officer Dr. Govindarajan, Director of Pondicherry Multipurposes Social Service Society A. S Antonisamy, artists Silpi Jayaraman and A.B Ibert, president of Puducherry State Artists Society. Certificates would be issued to all participants soon.
