MARCHING WITH A MISSION: CPI (M) volunteers taking out a procession in Puducherry on Sunday . — PUDUCHERRY: Volunteers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) took part in a procession here on Sunday to “highlight the political significance of the 19th congress of the party” to be held in Coimbatore from March 29 to April 3. Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the CPI (M) V. Perumal said that the procession started from the old bus stand and culminated at the memorial house of poet Subramanya Bharathi. The procession was launched by secretariat member of the party unit R. Rajangam. Tamil Nadu CPI (M) State committee member T. Murugan took the salute at the march past which coincided with the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh, he added. Mr. Perumal said Minister for Health E.Valsaraj and Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan should step down on moral grounds to face the cases registered against them as per the court orders. If they did not come forward to quit, they should be dismissed, he said. The party activists staged a demonstration on Anna Salai protesting against the hike announced by the government in the price of milk distributed by the Puducherry Milk Producers Cooperative Union, he said. Ramamurthy, the cadres staged a protest on Nehru Street urging the government to withdraw the milk price hike which affected the interest of the consumers.
