VELLORE: The Bar Association, Vellore, has urged the Tamil Nadu government to grant a corpus of Rs.25 crore to the Advocates’ Welfare Fund and to expedite measures to increase the monetary benefit to the families of deceased advocates to Rs. six lakh. Resolutions to these effects were adopted at an extraordinary general body meeting of the association held under the presidentship of M. Baskaran, president of the association, here on Thursday. The association also requested the Chief Minister to expedite measures to enhance the Advocates’ Welfare Fund, and urged the Tamil Nadu government to allocate 10 per cent of the court fees to the fund. By another resolution, the association decided that its members would stay away from all courts here on Monday to express the association’s protest against the “foisting” of a case by the Thiruvattar police and the National Highways authorities against A. Rasal Raj, advocate of Nagercoil.
