GULBARGA: A two-day moot court competition for law students organised by the Seth Shankarlal Lahoti Law College began here on Sunday.

Speaking after inaugurating the competition, the Principal and District Sessions Judge, H.S. Ramanna, said moot courts would not only help in improving the skills and knowledge of students, but also give them the confidence to practise as full-fledged advocates.

Mr. Ramanna said the legal profession had undergone many changes after globalisation and had opened up new avenues for law graduates. Many multinational companies were recruiting law graduates.

Stressing the importance of English in the legal profession, Mr. Ramanna said law students should have good communication skills. They should have a good knowledge of English.

He recalled the contribution of advocates for development during the pre and post-independence eras.

Turning to the participants, Mr. Ramanna said, “Young friends, you have chosen the noble profession. It requires hard work, dedication and skills to excel.”

The member of the Karnataka Bar Council, S.S. Khumman, and the member of the Governing Council of HKES, R.C. Dhotre, spoke. The joint secretary of HKES, Shivanand Mankar, presided over the function. The principal of the college, K.S. Bagale, welcomed the gathering. Teams from 12 law schools and colleges in Jodhpur, Pune, Thirussur, Kozhikode, Bangalore, Dharwad and other parts of the country are participating in the competition.
