Protest

DAVANGERE: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists burnt the effigies of Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and R.R. Patil, its Deputy Chief Minister here on Sunday in protest against their reported remarks against Kannadigas.

The protesters took out a procession despite the heavy rainfall, and raised slogans against the two.

They said it was unbecoming of a Chief Minister to make “provocative” remarks, and that such statements would be inimical to the cordial relationship that existed between Kannadigas and Marathi-speaking people in the border areas of the two states. — Staff Correspondent
