VILLUPURAM: Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy was hospitalised here after he complained of chest pain on Sunday.
The Minister attended an official function at his office here to give away a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of a farmer who was struck dead by lightning while working on his farm on Saturday.
Soon after the function, Mr. Ponmudy complained of chest pain and was rushed to a private hospital. A renowned cardiologist Thanikachalam had come down from Chennai to attend on him.
Meanwhile, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswamy, who was deputed by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to inspect the rain-affected areas in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts, cut short his visit and rushed to Villupuram.
After meeting Mr. Ponmudy at the hospital, the Minister told reporters that the former was doing well. Later in the evening Mr. Ponmudy was taken in an ambulance to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
