Separate exam in May for students who miss out YSR calls for action against those responsible for it HYDERABAD: Even as the SSC examination begins on Monday more than 10,000 students will not be able to take the examination as either they have been duped by private schools that failed to forward their applications or some heads of schools did not submit the ICR applications to the DEO concerned due to various reasons. Though denial of hall-tickets has been a regular feature the number is huge this year and officials attribute it to the mischief of private schools that have become bolder. Many unrecognised schools admit students in 10th class with the hope that they can “manage” the officials and legalise admissions. Some schools pay the fee for private candidates as regular ones and bargain with them for additional money. Fee for private candidates is much higher than regular candidates. Director of Government Examinations G.V. Subba Rao said that the government could not be blamed. “We have cleared all the applications that were submitted,” he said. Those who missed out could have at least submitted applications as private candidates as the last date was till January 9, 2008,” he said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ordered holding of supplementary schedule around May 15 for 10,000 students who would not be able to take the exam now. ResultsA press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said Dr. Reddy directed that the results of these students be declared around the first week of June and holding of the second supplementary for the failed candidates from June 20. The results are to be declared by July 10. He said students appearing for the first time in May 2008 be treated as regular candidates. He ordered action against those responsible for the students missing the examination, be it private managements, principals, correspondents and even government officials. In a separate press release, Mr. Subba Rao said that students, parents, heads of schools could contact either the control room (040-23237343) or three officials if they have any problem. The officers are V.G. Shankar 98499-01359 (for Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur districts), M. Vijaya Kumari 98660-18988 (Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, East/West Godavari, Krishna and Vizianagaram) and A. Nagabhushanam 98660-19026 (Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Medak, Nizamabad, Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad). The examinations will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 12 noon.
