‘Bloody’ Sunday on NH-9; sixteen killed

Sangareddy: Sixteen persons including eight of a marriage party were killed in two separate accidents on the National Highway-9 on Sunday.

Eight persons including three women belonging one family were killed on the spot in a road accident near Aroor of Sadasivapet mandal on NH-9.

A Chevrolet Tavera returning from Shirdi to Ramachandrapuram carrying nine persons hit a DCM van coming in the opposite direction. While the drivers of both the vehicles died the condition of two persons who were shifted to Gandhi Hospital was said to be critical.

According to police Manemma (70) of RC Puram, her daughter Chukkaiahgari Vimallama (46) resident of Nagulapalli of Ranga Reddy district, her son Hariprasada Reddy (21) a first year engineering student from Bangalore, Manemma’s second daughter Challa Prameela (45) of Bilalpur of Kohir mandal, her son Sharat Chandra Reddy (24) a medical student also from Bangalore, another son Ramprasad Reddy (21) a engineering student, Tavera driver Praveen Kumar (22) resident of RC Puram and DCM driver Shankar from Maharashtra died instantaneously.

Ramachandra Reddy and Shwetha also of Nagulapalli were admitted to hospital.

High speed?

Police believe that the Tavera driver hit the oncoming DCM at a high speed while trying to overtake another vehicle. The front portion of the vehicle rammed into the engine of the DCM.

Medak Additional SP Ravinder Reddy, Sangareddy DSP Mushtaq Ahmad, Sadasivapet SI Venkateswarlu reached the accident site and cleared the traffic.

NALGONDA: Eight persons of a marriage party were killed and three others sustained serious injuries when a lorry hit the van they were travelling in near Inupamula of Kethepally mandal on the NH-9 on Sunday night.

According to the information reaching here, the marriage party was on its way to Pata Suryapet of Atmakur (S) from Donakal near Nalgonda when the Hyderabad-bound lorry hit their van.

About 20 persons were travelling in the van . The injured persons were shifted to the Government hospital at Nakrekal.
