A.K. Balan KASARAGOD: The State government will not use force to evict encroachers at the Kumbazha Estate of Harrisons Malayalam Ltd in Pathanamthitta district, Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes A.K. Balan has said. The act of encroachment would not help the cause of the landless in anyway, the Minister added. He was inaugurating a post-metric hostel for scheduled caste students here on Sunday. The government was duty bound to distribute land to all landless people in the State including members of the scheduled castes and tribes but it was true that there was delay in the distribution, he said. Commenting on the delay in implementing projects by the Kerala State Electricity Board and the Scheduled Castes Welfare Department, Mr. Balan said the civil section of the KSEB was causing much delay. The accounts of the Idukki hydro-electric project had not been completed and submitted to the government though the engineers involved in the construction were no more, Mr. Balan said. The Minister said the departments should learn to complete works on time.
