BJP had intensified the Telangana movement Party will strive to achieve separate State
Statehood issue: BJP leader Sushma Swaraj addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday. HYDERABAD: The BJP Central Election Committee will decide whether the party should contest on its own or go for an electoral tie-up in the State Assembly by-elections. This was stated by party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj at a press conference here on Sunday. Asserting that time was ripe for realising the ‘dream’ of Telangana State, she said the party would not leave any stone unturned for achieving it. The BJP had intensified the Telangana movement and she had herself tried to raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha on five occasions. She would continue to do so in the ensuing sessions. Ms. Swaraj, who stopped en route to Sircilla (Karimnagar district) to attend a conference on weavers’ problems, demanded a loan waiver scheme for them, on the lines of the package for farmers. She said weavers were committing suicide unable to repay debts. Loan waiverCriticising the Centre for announcing loan waiver in haste, she wondered how the figure of Rs. 60,000 crore was arrived at by Finance Minister P. Chidambaram when the Reserve Bank of India stated that the amount was only Rs. 23,000 crore. Claiming that the scheme’s June 30 deadline indicated early Lok Sabha elections, she said the Congress was bound to lose, irrespective of the timing. Ridiculing the party’s celebrations for the success achieved under Sonia Gandhi, she said it had lost more than 10 elections after the UPA assumed power. UP trifurcationReplying to a question on the demand for trifurcation of Uttar Pradesh, she said the party had not yet considered the issue. It would be discussed with the State leaders before taking a decision.
