‘Pre-poll promises have been fulfilled’ Lists welfare schemes taken up in the State ANANTAPUR: Minister for Finance K. Rosaiah on Sunday stated that strategies were being worked out by the party to put up a good show in the forthcoming byelections in Telangana. The party is hopeful of bagging a “reasonable number” of seats based on the development programmes taken up in the region, he said. “Our position would be better than other parties purely because of our welfare and development schemes”, Mr. Rosaiah told reporters. There was Telangana sentiment but it was not spread equally among all sections, he felt. But, the development done by the government was there for all to see. The ruling party stood to gain from the expected multi-cornered contests, Mr. Rosaiah said. On the bickering among the party seniors, the Minister said the dust would settle down once the election schedule was announced. Claiming that Andhra Pradesh had highest annual plans in the country for the last four successive years the Finance Minister said the government could achieve it “not with the jugglery of figures or by printing counterfeit currency” but by improving the revenue from different means and sources. The government had been strengthening all departments, plugging leakages and evasion of revenue and the economy was buoyant. The minister said the government had achieved a lot on the medial and health front by introducing Rajiv Aarogya Sri scheme and 108 and 104 services. The poor families were now assured of good healthcare, he claimed. The allocation of Rs. 450 crores for the health sector during 2008-09 was highest and if necessary another Rs. 50 to 100 cr. would also be allocated. Their government had fulfilled all its poll promises and in addition introduced several other welfare schemes like waiver of farm loans, Aarogya Sri, Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme among a host of others. He also participated in several private programmes and was felicitated by Arya Vysya associations.
