Bhajan Lal CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana Chief Minister and suspended Congress MLA Bhajan Lal, who was expected to “resign” from the Vidhan Sabha on Sunday a day before Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian further takes up disqualification proceedings against the veteran leader on Monday, left for Hisar early in the morning where he addressed the media and launched a scathing attack against the present dispensation in the State. He also talked about his “contribution” to the State and the Congress during his long innings in politics. Mr. Lal, who is the patron of the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) which was floated by his younger son, Kuldeep Singh Bishnoi, late last year, said that his blessings were with Kuldeep who recently “resigned” his Lok Sabha seat in protest against the disqualification of two MLAs, Dharampal Singh Malik and Rakesh Kamboj. Mr. Lal said that he had always served the people during his long tenure as Chief Minister and even otherwise and talked about his contribution to the construction of 95 per cent portion of the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal and the fight against terrorism. He added that he had survived several terrorist attacks and said that now Kuldeep was receiving threatening phone calls. However, he asserted that he was not afraid of “threats” as the “interests of Haryana and Haryanvis mattered the most to him.” Criticizing the Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government and other Chief Ministers for “politicalising the SYL Canal imbroglio”, he asserted that his son and political successor Kuldeep would fulfil his dream of getting the remaining portion completed. Mr. Lal said that he had always served the Congress which “represented the common man” and it was under his leadership that the Congress came to power in Haryana in 2005. Referring to the “`disqualification of Mr.Malik and Mr.Kamboj by the Speaker, Mr. Lal said that he too would meet a “similar fate on March 24” but asserted that they were unfazed by these “developments” as the Congress was being “transformed into the Lok Dal”. He further asserted that time would tell that the Janhit Congress was the real Congress.
