HYDERABAD: Well into the process of reviewing the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) strength in the 16 Assembly constituencies, a meeting for the Secunderabad segment on Sunday saw the name of former Minister T. Srinivas Yadav almost being finalised as the candidate for the bypoll. Apart from Secunderabad, names of candidates for three other constituencies, which were reviewed earlier in the week were finalised. They include former Minister E. Peddi Reddy (Huzurabad) and M. Damodar Reddy (Kamalapur). As for Terlam, expectedly Tentu Lakshmi Naidu, son of the Tentu Jayaprakash Naidu whose death necessitated the byelection, would be given the ticket. During the last four days, TD party president N. Chandrababu Naidu had been chairing review meetings of the Assembly constituencies slated to go to polls following the en masse resignation of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs. FeedbackFeedback received from the second rung leaders in the constituencies pointed to the fact that they wanted Mr. Naidu to take stern action against seniors speaking out of turn on Telangana. They stressed the need for more youth to be encouraged. Assurance givenMr. Naidu is understood to have reassured them that he would not allow rusting of the image of a party which was considered the most disciplined. However, he asked them to tighten their belts and get into the campaign mode, improving awareness among people of the ‘false promises’ of the Congress at both mandal and village level.
