Officials submit report on damage to crops

Collector inspects many villages affected by rain in Ariyalur district

ARIYALUR: The Revenue and Agriculture departments in the district have submitted a report on the damage caused to crops due to the recent spell of rains.
The Collector, R. Sudalaikannan, inspected paddy crop raised by villagers of Keelakavattankurichi, Karayavetti, Venganur, Vadukapalayam, Kallankudi, Elakurichi and Kuruvadi in Ariyalur taluk to assess the damage caused by the rains.
Responding to requests of the villagers for relief, the Collector assured them that the district administration would soon send a report to the government on the damage to the crops after complete assessment of the situation.
Accompanied by Ariyalur MLA P. Amaramoorthy and senior officials, the Collector also visited several villages in Tirumanur Panchayat Union, including Kunthapuram, Kavattankurichi, Karaivetti, Parathur, Ilanthaikootam, Annimangalam, Senapathi and Mudikondan, to determine the damage caused to paddy, sunflower and gingelly crops that were ready for harvest. The farmers requested the authorities to keep the Paddy Procurement Centres open.
