“Cancel deputation order”

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA) has demanded cancellation of deputation order of a medical officer attached to a primary health centre based on allegations of his subordinate staff, according to its secretary K. Senthil.

A decision to this effect was taken at an urgent general body meeting of the association here on Friday.

Dr. Senthi said that the Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), who had issued the order, had taken the action without conducting any enquiry into the alleged harassment charge.

The association had also planned to stage a demonstration in front of the Government Rajaji Hospital on April 1 if the demand was not met.

Opposing the action, the association wanted the Deputy Director to withdraw the order deputing the medical officer from Koilpappakudi primary health centre to Kulamangalam and hold an enquiry into the incident.

Responding to the TNGDA claim, A. Palanichamy, DDHS, said that a staff member lodged a complaint to the Director of Public Health during his recent visit to the city.

“The DPH wanted me to depute the doctor to a nearby PHC to ease the tension. But the problem has been blown out of proportion now. The matter will be taken to the Director for his further order on holding an enquiry,” said Dr. Palanichamy.

The general body also expressed its opposition towards the circular issued by the Director of Public Health insisting medical officers to verify the income of beneficiaries of the Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy maternity scheme. Such an order would overburden the medical officers, who were loaded with work.
