BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said that wheat would not be allowed to be sold below the support price of Rs. 1100 a quintal. From April 1, wheat would be supplied to the weaker sections at Rs. 3 a kg. The Chief Minister was speaking at Manawar in Dhar district and Menimata in Badwani district on Holdi eve.
A day after the BJP president Rajnath Singh addressed a party workers’ rally at Betul, where tribals constitute 37.50 per cent of the population, Mr. Chauhan headed the tribal dominated area in western Madhya Pradesh to explain the achievements of his government. Mr. Chauhan, who celebrated the Bhagoria festival of tribals at Manawar. used the opportunity to “give credit to his government” for the steps being taken to transfer land ownership rights. The Chief Minister said in Manawar that land ownership certificates (pattas) would be given to all those who had settled on forest land till 2005 — a mandate to be met under the Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act 2006. Efforts were being made to help the farmers clear loans taken from moneylenders, he said. Farmers would now get loans at 5 per cent interest for buying seeds. They would also get electricity at a reduced tariff of 75 paise a unit. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for development works, mainly relating to potable water and water management. Minister of State for Tribal Welfare, General Administration and Aviation Ranjana Baghel and Member of Parliament Chhatarsingh Darbar joined the festivities.
