Stranded cargo vessel reaches Kolkata
Kolkata: A Panama flag vessel “C.S. Signe,” which hit a jetty on the Hooghly and ran aground on Saturday, reached here on Sunday, sources in the Kolkata Port Trust said.
The cellular container vessel, which set to sail from Colombo with a 20-member crew and 6,370 tonnes of cargo, hit the jetty about 60 km from here before getting stuck in the mud at Nurpur in South 24-Parganas district.
The Port Trust officials used tugs and put the ship on water during high tide. “It has reached the Kidderpore docks,” the sources said. The vessel had strayed towards the jetty due to a problem in its steering.
The crew members — 17 Indians, two Ukrainians and one Bangladeshi — were safe.
