PDP covering up its misdeeds: Omar

SRINAGAR: National Conference president Omar Abdullah on Sunday came down heavily on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and accused it of being responsible for the killing of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq and many Hizb-ul Mujahideen commanders, who took part in the short-lived ceasefire in 2000.

“We sought forgiveness from the nation for my party’s mistakes,” Mr. Abdullah said at a public meeting at Bemina here. “But the PDP is still covering up its misdeeds. It was behind the killing of Hizb commanders, who took part in the ceasefire and of hundreds of people at the funeral of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq in 1990 when Mufti Mohhamad Sayeed was the Union Home Minister.”

He criticised the party for its “so called healing touch” policy and said it proved to be a hoax. “So many custodial killings took place during the PDP’s rule. Whom are they fooling,” he asked.

The coalition government failed to deliver what it promised. “Now they are talking about recruitment, but where is the salary for transport employees who are on strike for many months?” He asked the people to vote the Congress-PDP government out of power. “People should do a cost-benefit analysis of the five years of the coalition government and they will find the result a zero-sum game.”

He told reporters the NC’s election manifesto would have three parts. “One will be totally for the youth and our programme of employment and other schemes.”
