KOCHI: The Spices Board has warned exporters about the latest regulations imposed by Russia on plant products exported from India. Russia’s Department of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has notified that import of tea, coffee, and spices will be allowed only through the Russian ports at St.Petersburg, Leningrad and Kalingrad with effect from January 2008. According to the latest notification, the imported products have to conform to the phytosanitary requirements of the Russian Federation. The products are to be transported in packages, made without use of natural plant fibres and accompanied with information about preventive disinfection of packages and containers made by the agencies, authorised by the Indian National Quarantine and Plant Protection Organisation. The Spices Board has asked exporters to strictly comply with these requirements for clearing the consignments exported to Russia.
