Uncertainty over POSCO groundbreaking ceremony

Bhubaneswar: Uncertainty prevailed over holding the ground breaking ceremony of the Rs 51,000 crore Posco project in Orissa slated for April 1 as even Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was unsure of the schedule for the ceremony. “We will certainly examine the issue,” Mr. Patnaik said while replying to a query on whether the ground breaking ceremony would be held as per earlier announcement. Mr. Patnaik said the government would review the situation before making any formal confirmation on the scheduled function at the proposed plant site near Paradip. “We will see what best can be done on the day,” he said.

Meanwhile, a number of anti-project groups from across the country had announced to hold ‘bikalpa bikas samabesh’ (alternative development rally) on April 1 to protest against the State Government’s move to hold the ceremony. – PTI
