4 security men killed in encounter

SRINAGAR: Four security personnel and a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander were killed in a fierce gun battle here on Sunday.
Police received information about the presence of militants in a house in Kashi Mohalla Telbal on the outskirts of the city.
The area was cordoned off and a joint operation launched by the police and the 122nd battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
“As the police zeroed in on the target area, the militants hurled grenades and opened fire. Police then evacuated the area to avoid civilian casualty,” a spokesman for the Zonal Police headquarters said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba had a narrow escape when his vehicle came under fire. His driver Bashir Ahmad died on the spot.
Two other policemen and a CRPF constable were killed soon after.
The policemen were identified as Irshad Ahmed and Mohammad Kabir and the CRPF man Sham Singh.
