KOCHI: The Railways is considering the possibility of having a high-speed rail corridor connecting Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Kochi, K.C. Jena, chairman of the Railway Board, has said. Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, he said that six high-speed passenger corridors had been planned as a public-private partnership. Interested State governments and the Railways would pool in equal funds for the same. “A global tender will soon be called for, to fix a consultant,” he added. Mr. Jena, who is on a Kerala tour to oversee rail-development works, said that Kerala had been allotted Rs. 349 crore for the coming financial year, as compared to Rs. 283 crore the previous year. The aim was to develop infrastructure. Rail connectivity to Vallarpadam international container transhipment project would be completed by 2009. On the proposed Angamaly-Sabarimala rail link, he said the Railways was keen on carrying out the work, which had been held up by land-acquisition problems.
