BANGALORE: A day after the arrest of a Bangladeshi circulating fake currency notes, the Central Crime Branch has arrested three persons, including one who is allegedly associated with an international fake currency racket run by Dawood Ibrahim, the underworld don. A team from the Women and Narcotics wing of the CCB, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Jeethendranath, arrested Jalaluddin (28), a native of Uppala near Kasaragod. The recovered fake currency notes had a face value of Rs. 1.70 lakh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) N.D. Mulla said Jalaluddin was a relative of Rasheed alias Puttu, who was arrested by the Corps of Detectives for allegedly possessing fake currency notes with a face value of Rs. 1 crore. Rasheed is suspected to have links with the international fake currency racket of Dawood Ibrahim, who has gone underground. Jalaluddin and Rasheed were involved in the circulation of fake currency notes since 2004, he said. Mr. Mulla said the police caught Jalaluddin when he was getting off a bus at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station. He was carrying the fake currency notes in a suitcase. He said a police search was on for the accomplices of Jalaluddin. More arrestsThe same police team also caught two persons involved in circulating fake currency notes in a hideout in Ramamurthy Nagar on Sunday. Alexander (58) and Daniel (56), both from A. Narayanapura, are allegedly associated with a gang headed by Subba Reddy of Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Mulla said Alexander and Daniel were caught with an electronic device which they had in a suitcase and some coloured notes cut to the size of the currency note of Rs. 500 denomination. The police said they were inducing people to give three times the money offered. “They were keeping coloured notes in between ‘two Rs. 500 notes’ in a bundle and giving it to people,” he said. The police have recovered fake currency notes with a face value of Rs. 12 lakh, the electronic device, chemicals used and the paper cutting machine. TransferredMeanwhile, the case involving the arrest of the Bangladeshi national Sabu Sheik, who was accused of possessing 12 fake notes of Rs. 1,000 denomination, has been transferred to the Kadugodi police for investigation.
