Gang led by kingpin known as ‘CS’ cheats students

BANGALORE: In a major breakthrough, on Sunday, the Department of Pre-University Education and the police were able to busted a question paper leak scam, which allegedly cheated students.

The police have taken into custody five persons allegedly involved in the racket, including the kingpin known to the “agents” as “CS.”

S.G. Hegde, Commissioner, Department of PU Education, told The Hindu that the officials of the department were besieged with calls from aggrieved parents and students who wanted to provide them with information about those involved in “selling” second PU question papers.

“Like I mentioned earlier, the department has taken steps to ensure that the papers are not leaked. There are a few people who sell the question papers to gullible students and make a fast buck,” he said.

Several students and parents gave the officials important clues that helped the department track those allegedly involved in the racket. “The police officials cooperated with us and swung into action and were able to take the five into custody for further investigation,” he said.

Agents

According to preliminary investigation, “CS”, the kingpin of the racket, had agents spread across the city. The gang reportedly functions out of several centres. “Students were asked to pay Rs. 15,000 a paper. We do not have an idea about the number of students who have been cheated by the gang,” Mr. Hegde added.

Student involved

Mr. Hegde said that one of the persons taken into custody included a student from Akshaya College.

“He was waiting at one of the centres for the mathematics paper. He had purchased the physics paper by paying Rs. 5,000. He was supposed to pay the remaining amount after the examination. However, since the original paper only had questions worth 20 marks from the ‘leaked’ paper, he refused to pay the remaining amount,” he said.

Students may lodge complaints on Ph: 9886779636, 9449646888, 9980996631, 23561944 and 23361857.
