Sangareddy: The Medak unit of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh announced that it will launch an indefinite hunger strike on April 2 if the Government fails to fulfil the demands it put forth for cane farmers. Addressing a rally, Anji Reddy, president of the BKS, pointed out that farmers have been demanding better price for cane and arrears due to them from sugar mills in the district. He said that nothing has happened even after Minister for Sugar J. Geetha Reddy had announced that the mills have agreed to pay the price fixed by the Government. BKS district secretary Narsimha Reddy demanded the Government to compensate the loss incurred by farmers in the district due to incessant rain. Earlier, BKS organised a rally with a large number of farmers to the district Collectorate. Farmers tried to meet the Collector but they were told that he is not in his chambers. They found fault with his absence and alleged that they informed the Collector’s office well in advance of their intention to meet him and submit a memorandum. This is how the administration responds to issue of farmers, the agitating farmers complained.
