Lawyers boycott courts

ERODE: Advocates practising in various courts in Erode district boycotted court on Monday. According to the Secretary, Erode Bar Association, K. Suresh Kumar, the advocates highlighted various demands including own building for courts, filling up of vacancies in courts, hike in advocates’ welfare fund from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh, and also condemned attack on lawyers in Nagercoil and registration of cases against them.

Because of the boycott, proceedings in 17 courts in the city and 27 in the district came to a halt. In all, 2,300 advocates did not appear in courts.
