Diwakar Reddy lodges complaint against Anantapur SP

Accuses the top police official of ‘highhanded’ behaviour

HYDERABAD: Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy and three other Congress legislators on Monday urged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to order an inquiry into the alleged ‘highhanded’ behaviour of the Anantapur Superintendent of Police K. Stephen Ravindra.

Accompanied by party legislators Shailajanath (Singanamala), Gade Neelavati (Gooty) and Government Whip in the Legislative Council Y. Sivarami Reddy, Mr. Diwakar Reddy brought to the Chief Minister’s notice the highly ‘objectionable’ conduct of the SP. They complained that Mr. Ravindra was summoning politicians to his office and hurling abuses and manhandling them in the name of ‘counselling’.

They cited the instance of former Minister and three-time MLA T. Nagi Reddy. Alleging that the SP did not show any sympathy towards Mr. Nagi Reddy, who has been ailing for sometime, they said he manhandled him in the name of curbing factions in the district.

He said this was not the first time that the SP had acted in such a manner. Sometime ago, the Agriculture Market Committee chairman of Kadiri, Srinivasulu Reddy was also summoned to the SP’s office and meted out the same treatment.

“The SP did not even allow the Congress and other party leaders to stay in the villages and prevented them from taking up agricultural operations,” Mr. Diwakar Reddy told reporters here. He said notwithstanding the issue being brought to the notice of Home Minister K. Jana Reddy repeatedly, the SP did not change his behaviour.

Mr. Diwakar Reddy went to the extent of charging that the SP was targeting a particular section and resorting to intimidation.
