To discuss Telangana issue, latest political developments with Sonia

Visit comes in the wake of party seniors’ interaction with Sonia
Dr. Reddy likely to discuss appointment of the new PCC chief

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is leaving on Tuesday afternoon for a day’s visit to New Delhi to call on AICC president Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders. He will hold discussions with Ahmed Patel, Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary, and AICC general secretary and in-charge A.P. affairs M. Veerappa Moily.

The visit comes in the wake of the recent interaction the party ‘seniors’ had with Ms. Gandhi on the issue of separate Telangana and the public meeting in Bhongir, which was subsequently cancelled.

Besides posting her of the latest political developments, Dr. Reddy could discuss Telangana issue in view of the by-elections to the 16 Assembly segments and four Lok Sabha seats. He is likely to discuss the appointment of the new PCC chief. The names of special representative to the government in New Delhi Mallu Ravi, Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao are doing the rounds.

Meanwhile, APSRTC chairman M. Satyanarayana Rao said the ‘seniors’ should at least now realise the high command’s clout. He said he was opposed to the Bhongir meeting from the beginning, but had to support the collective decision.

‘Differences common’

On the by-elections, Mr. Rao said he would abide by the party’s decision and campaign for the official candidate. The Telangana Regional Development Board chairman V. Purushotham Reddy, who drew flak for announcing the cancellation of the Bhongir meeting, said differences among the leaders was common. But he hastened to add that everybody was in the Congress party. On the other hand V. Hanumantha Rao hoped the ‘seniors’ would unitedly work for the party’s success in the by-elections.

PCC meeting

The Chief Minister will attend a meeting of ministers, legislators and members of the District and City Congress Committees and PCC Executive Committee on March 29 at Gandhi Bhavan.
